South Africans speak fluent, natural English with neutral accents. There's no communication gap, no misunderstandings, and no awkward translations. Your customers, clients, and team members won't know the difference. It's seamless from day one.

World-class work ethic.

South African talent is globally recognised for resilience, adaptability, and a results-driven mindset. They're used to wearing multiple hats, solving problems under pressure, and delivering every time. These aren't people who just follow instructions. They take initiative, think critically, and go the extra mile because they see this as a career, not just a job.

Frequently Asked Questions

Getting Started

HireSA is a job board for international companies to hire remote talent from South Africa.

Unlike managed service agencies, BPOs, or recruiting agencies, HireSA is a direct hire marketplace for employers to hire directly without third party managers and additional fees.

Well it's a bit of a trick question. Because you'll need to upgrade regardless if you want to contact candidates and make a hire. But we built it this way for good reason.

The thing is if all the free users could contact candidates then candidates would start to be overwhelmed by scammy messages and could lose interest fast. We built HireSA to focus on a quality talent pool rather than quantity.

In turn, the candidates take messages WAY more seriously and employers are able to reach quality candidates quickly.

But we want to add as many guarantees in place for you to feel comfortable to make a hire with HireSA. That's why we offer a free version to get a sense for the candidates plus we offer a 30 day money back guarantee if you don't make a hire.

Our goal is to empower business owners to tap into incredible South African talent by themselves by providing them with all the possible tools and resources to make that happen.

Unlike other generic job boards, we take a hands-on approach and proactively source candidates into our talent pool. Instead of waiting for candidates to find our job board, we've partnered with some of the top universities in Johannesburg and Cape Town to provide us with their best graduates and alumni. We also actively source new rockstars and add them to our curated Hotlist.

Compare the alternatives: recruiting agencies charge 15-35% of annual salary ($5,000-$15,000+ per hire), Upwork takes 10-20% monthly forever, and both lock you into their platforms. We charge up front so we don't have to mark up the salaries. No middleman. No markups.

There's a big difference! Here's a brief snapshot at the main differences:

  • HireSA is dedicated to South Africa.
  • Upwork charges 10%–20% of the freelancers salary each month. With HireSA once you've hired someone you can cancel your subscription and there are no ongoing fees for you or the candidates.
  • Upwork is best for gig work and project to project work. HireSA focuses on long term hires that's better for your business and the workers.
  • HireSA doesn't force you to pay your workers through us.

Hiring & Roles

Since we've recently launched, instead of casting a wide net of every type of role and just waiting to see who shows up, we've decided to take a hands-on approach and focus on a select few roles and attract the best talent for these positions. By doing this, we're able to offer role specific assessments and build a reputation for the candidates in these fields. In turn, you'll find qualified, ready to work rockstars already waiting for you!

Right now our best roles are:

  • Sales — cold callers, sales development representatives, account executives, full cycle sales representatives, sales directors. We also offer coaching for onboarding your sales reps :)
  • Executive Assistants — EAs, legal assistants, marketing assistants, admins assistants. They're versatile, highly educated, well spoken executive assistants from South Africa. They're ready to be the air-traffic controllers of your life and take business to the next level!
  • Customer Service — customer success representatives, account managers, client success managers.
  • Other great roles are marketing, finance, and recruiters. Ultimately you can post a job for any remote role you would like but these are the roles we actively target for our talent pool.

You can hire both! With HireSA's filter on the Find Talent page, you'll be able to filter candidates looking for either full time or part time work. You'll also be able to filter candidates looking for "gig" opportunities on a project basis.

Most of the candidates and employers using HireSA are interested in long term relationships.

Absolutely! In our experience, South Africa is hands down the best country to hire customer facing talent. South Africa has close cultural alignment with the UK and the US so it's easy to relate.

Plus they've got a killer accent that Americans LOVE.

Working with Your Hire

Yes, all candidates are given the expectation that they might need to accommodate other timezones.

If you're a UK based company, South Africa perfectly aligns with your timezone. Australia is around 9 hours ahead of South Africa. US Eastern time is about 6 hours behind South Africa.

We recommend setting the timezone expectation with your new hire early on.

We recommend using a Contractor of Record service like Deel or Multiplier as the best solution. They'll act as the intermediary and facilitate payments and contracts, helping you stay compliant with South African labor laws.

For smaller arrangements or part-time hires, you can use global payment platforms like Wise or PayPal. While these might work fine for a single hire, once you start building your overseas team we recommend upgrading to a service like Deel's Contractor Management for better protection and compliance.

Depends. If you're hiring a full time staff member then monthly is the most common in South Africa. For part time, hourly, or contract based, a weekly payment schedule may be more suitable.

Ultimately it's completely up to you and the candidate.

From our experience the easiest way to hire overseas talent in South Africa is to hire them as Foreign Independent Contractors of your business. Similar to a 1099 (but they do not need to file a 1099 form since they're not in the U.S.) the candidates are responsible for filing their own taxes, not the employers.

However, South Africa does have stricter requirements for contractors than the Philippines. If a contractor is working 40 hours a week, uses company equipment, and reports to a manager, South African law might eventually classify them as a "de facto employee," which may carry legal risks.

We recommend using a Contractor of Record service like Deel or Multiplier as a perfect solution. They'll act as the intermediary and facilitate payments and the contracts. This way you generally don't need to worry about South African tax withholding or filing requirements.

Do you need to provide benefits? No.

Should you? Absolutely!

Since they're independent contractors, benefits are not required. But it's a good idea to offer PTO, holiday schedule, and bonuses.

If you need some advice on the best benefits package to offer email us at hello@hiresa.com and we'll be happy to help!
